What to Expect from Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy?

A typical assessment includes a detailed subjective history to better understand your symptoms related to bowel and bladder function, sexual activity, sleep stress and general health. Not all cases require an internal exam, but in some cases in order to assess the pelvic floor tissues, a manual internal examination (vaginal or rectal) of the pelvic floor may be required to determine if it could be contributing to your symptoms. The assessment and exam is provided in a private room. This examination will assist to develop a treatment plan that includes patient education, manual therapy (soft tissue/deep tissue techniques to increase proprioception and muscle relaxation), therapeutic exercise and modalities as indicated.
